Eczema and sensitive skin anyone?

Some of you guys may know, since the start of May/Winter my skin got really really bad and ended up with a lot of dry and flakey skin around my eyes, mouth and cheeks. I was honestly not a pleasant site to look at. I looked like a panda except that my patches were red and flaky...

The causes of my eczema is actually the winter weather... because we/i tend to use heaters and electric blankets to keep warm... So the air ends up really cold and dry... which totally drains our/my face of its water/moisture.

Currently... my face is still a little dry... but more than 90% of the redness has gone... so what happened?

1. I was using laneige... - no change... actually it kind of stung... so I decided to switch brands until my skin got better
2. I switched to Origins because it claimed to be organic and I heard it was best for people suffering from eczema to use organic products or products with less chemicals... - eye cream took the puffiness away on my eyes, redness died down a little but was still a site for sore eyes.
3. Went to my doctor for other reasons, and he gave me aqueous and hydrocaudasine 1% - the aquaous helped but make me ichy! like REAL ICHY... and the hydro well its not recommended excessive uses.... and ummm yeah it made my face really really red! my originally 5% worked better
4. I stopped using all skin care and got a tiny sample of egyptian magic... slight change... I wasn't so red and the flakes went away gradually
5. I ran out of the stuff! So... I was washing my face with cold water... drying with tissues, because I was scared towels would cause a reaction. And then I decided to pinch my primerose oil capsule and put it on my face. Yeah I know its gross but I was DESPERATE! but this seemed to work... my skin is not much clearer... from my previous post... you can see my face has nearly recovered 100%... I have a few spots left... but very slight that its very hard to detect. I do this every night... with a towel on my pillowcase... because u tend to move and u kinda not want oil on your pillow case :s but yeah... when i wake up in the morning my face looks more hydrated and the flackness is gone.

The main thing that I have to do is keep on drinking water, so that the water can get to my skin.... and make sure that the outside of my skin isnt too dry... I can't wait to use egyptian magic again because then I won't have to use the evening primerose oil at night anymore!

If you guys have eczema or sensitive skin, let me know how you help your skin... I just thought I'd share what I did just in case anyone goes through what I did...

Hey, I feel your pain bc I have eczema too. If I don't take care of it, it gets BAD! I hope you feel better soon!

Here's some things that help me:

1) Get antihistamine. It's allergy medication that you can take everytime you itch, so you don't scratch. Here's one brand you can by Benadryl found at the pharmacy (for some reason I can't post a link here, but google Benadryl antihistamine and you'll find a pic of the box)

2) Yup wash face with cold cold water, never hot water

3) You can get hydrocortisone to put on the bad areas (prescription or you can find it in walmart in the pharmacy section); don't use too much though bc it thins out the skin over time

4) Clinderm face cream helps me (soothes and stops itching, found in pharmacies in beauty aisle); I also use Marcelle but I think it's only sold in Canada.

5) use humidifier in your room

6) drink TONS of water! Man, I drink so much, I have to replenish the Brita jug every 5 hours.

I think 1) will help the best with itching.

Hope you feel better!

I have super eczema! But it has been quite alright for this year... *knock on wood* Super hot water definitely makes me itch!! Good moisturizers also help a lot..

My sister has eczema she swears by drinking a lot of fluid and taking vitamin for skins. she also uses body shop vitamin E cream. Her eczema has become a lot more controlled in the last few yrs. she only gets really itchy when its hot

My cousin had eczema but it only gets pretty bad in the summer where she actually have to wear long sleeves or a sweater all the time, it sucks. I know the one thing that soothes her skin is Eucerin products. Im not exactly sure what kind but i see Eucerin products in her bathroom.

I hope you feel better girl!

I get eczema in the winter as well, or if I try makeup/skincare that just doesn't agree with me. I use a prescription steroid cream from time to time on the really bad spots, but using a humidifier this winter really helped! I try to wash my face with tepid water and rinse with cold, aaaand...sometimes I'd use yu-be on dry spots on my face, which helped out quite a bit. Purpose cleanser was a big help when my skin was too sensitive to wash with anything else, and this soap bar that I got from a local soapmaker was a total savior :)
